Consists of four training dives, three practical application sessions, and three knowledge building portions. Intended for divers making the switch from recreational to technical diving.
You make the switch from recreational scuba diving to technical diving in the PADI Tec 40 course. Because it’s the first section of the whole PADI Tec Diver course and bridges the gap between no-stop diving and full technical deep decompression diving, it’s a perfect place to start. You obtain information and abilities as well as experience that you will need to continue your tec diver training. You’ll be able to perform restricted decompression dives up to 40 meters (130 feet).
In order to register for the Tec 40 course, you must be:
- An advanced open water diver with PADI
- a PADI Enriched Air Diver who has completed at least 10 dives deeper than 18 meters/60 feet
- Proof of at least 10 dives to 30 meters/100 feet or a PADI Deep Diver certification
- at least 30 dives documented and at least 18 years old
- Additionally, a medical statement that was signed within the last 12 months by a doctor is required.
- Ask your PADI Tec Deep Instructor whether your qualifications from other diver training agencies qualify.
Three knowledge development portions, three practical application sessions, and four training dives make up the Tec 40 course. What you’ll discover is
- The hazards and duties of technical diving
- Specialized diving gear, suitable rigging, and setup
- Preparing for gas, oxygen constraints, and decompression
- Techniques for team diving and emergency responses, such as how to handle free flows, manifold leaks, and out-of-gas scenarios
You’ll start with your standard scuba diving gear and gradually add technical gear, effectively beginning to double up on gear. You may dive with cylinders installed on the side or the back. To be even more conservative, your PADI Tec Instructor could have you dive using EANx.
